Annual Benefit Statements (ABS) for Active Members

We have commenced mailing the 2007 Annual Benefit Statements for active members. As a result of this, we are experiencing a very high volume of calls during this busy period. If you are attempting to contact the Pensions Helpline with any query, please remain patient and we will deal with your call as quickly as possible.

If you have not received your statement by 29 February 2008 please contact the Pensions Helpline.

Combining LGPS Membership - Final Pay Calculator

If you have deferred benefits in the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) and you rejoin, you can normally either leave your deferred benefits separate, or transfer/combine your benefits. If you want to transfer/combine you must elect to do so while you are a contributing member of the LGPS in your new job and, normally, within twelve months of the day you rejoined. The Final Pay Calculator will allow you to compare your current pensionable earnings with the pensionable earnings from your previous post, taking into account rises in the cost of living.

Transferring Previous Pension Rights in to the Fund

If you are considering transferring previous pension benefits that are not already part of the Local Government Pension Scheme you should complete Transfer Form A (forms are shown below) and forward it together with Transfer Form B to your previous pension provider.

If you have previous pension benefits with another LGPS Fund in England or Wales, please complete Transfer Form C and send this to your former Fund. If you have previous pension benefits with another LGPS Fund in Scotland or Northern Ireland, please complete Transfer Form B, instead of Form C. If you have more than one previous period of LGPS membership, under the current Scheme Regulations, you may only elect to combine the most recent period with your current membership.

Please note that Scheme Regulations only allow transfers to take place within the first twelve months of joining the Fund.  However, your current employer can exercise their discretion to extend this limit.  If you are outside of this limit you may wish to contact your employer to seek their permission to extend the time limit.  Please use Transfer Form D in these circumstances.

The “Transferring your Pension Rights into the Tyne and Wear Pension Fund” leaflet explains the procedure for the transfer to take place.
